Beets are a unique source of phytonutrients called betalains. Betanin and vulgaxanthin are the two best-studied betalains from beets, and both have been shown to provide antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and detoxification support.

  1. Detoxify: The betalin pigments in beets support your body’s Phase 2 detoxification process, which is when broken down toxins are bound to other molecules so they can be excreted from your body. Quick tip

Add beets to a smoothie or salad or use the following recipe to pickle your own beets and eat them by themselves:

  • 2 tbsp of vinegar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of cut beets

Mix warm water, vinegar, and brown sugar until fully blended.  Pour mixture over the beets and let sit for at least 6 hours.
